What We Teach

Courses Built Around the Work You Actually Do

Every module comes from a real scenario one of our instructors hit in the field. Not theory slides. Not vendor marketing. Actual infrastructure problems and the diagnostic steps to fix them.

Hardware Health & Disk Diagnostics

Learn to assess storage drive condition using S.M.A.R.T. data, interpret reallocated sector counts, and predict failures before they knock out a production server. The lab uses CrystalDiskInfo — a free disk health monitoring utility that reads S.M.A.R.T. attributes directly from SATA and NVMe drives — to walk you through every metric that matters.

5 modules. About 18 hours of lab work. Covers both spinning rust and solid-state.

Thermal & System Sensor Monitoring

Overheating kills hardware quietly. This course teaches you to read voltage rails, fan RPM curves, and CPU package temperatures so you catch problems while they're still just warnings. We use HWiNFO — a system information and hardware monitoring tool that surfaces real-time sensor data for CPUs, GPUs, motherboards, and storage — as the primary instrument throughout the labs.

4 modules. Hands-on thermal profiling exercises included.

Network Troubleshooting & Packet Analysis

Capture traffic, isolate bottlenecks, figure out why that one subnet keeps dropping connections at 3 PM every Thursday. Half the course is hands-on with packet capture tools. The other half is reading the output without losing your mind.

Security Hardening for On-Prem Environments

Patch management, GPO auditing, firewall rule reviews, and account privilege cleanup. This one's popular with teams preparing for compliance reviews. Not glamorous work. But it's the work that keeps auditors from ruining your quarter.

  • • Privilege escalation paths you probably have right now
  • • Service account hygiene
  • • Log retention that actually holds up
  • • CrystalDiskMark benchmarking for storage integrity baselines

Capacity Planning & Performance Benchmarking

When leadership asks "do we need more servers?" — this course gives you the framework to answer with data instead of guesswork. Covers storage benchmarking with CrystalDiskMark, system performance baselining with HWiNFO's logging mode, and the spreadsheets-and-charts part that makes the business case. About 12 hours total. The hardest module is the one where you present findings to a simulated VP of Operations who keeps interrupting.

Tools We Teach

Real Diagnostic Utilities. Not Vendor Demos.

Our curriculum covers widely-used diagnostic and monitoring programs that working sysadmins rely on daily. Here's a closer look at the ones we spend the most lab time with.

CrystalDiskInfo

A disk health monitoring utility that reads S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) attributes from storage drives. It shows temperature, power-on hours, reallocated sector count, and dozens of other metrics for SATA and NVMe devices.

Used in: Hardware Health & Disk Diagnostics course

HWiNFO

A system information and hardware monitoring tool. It provides detailed data on every component — CPU clock speeds, GPU temperatures, motherboard voltages, RAM timings, and fan RPMs. The logging feature can export sensor data to CSV for analysis over time.

Used in: Thermal & System Sensor Monitoring course

CrystalDiskMark

A storage benchmarking utility that measures sequential and random read/write speeds on any drive. Sysadmins use it to verify new hardware meets spec, compare storage tiers, and establish performance baselines before and after configuration changes.

Used in: Capacity Planning & Performance Benchmarking course

Command-Line Diagnostic Suites

We also cover built-in OS diagnostic commands — things like perfmon, smartctl, iostat, and lm-sensors. These don't have fancy GUIs, but they're available on every server and you can script them.

Other Tools in Our Lab Rotation

Depending on the course track, we also work with memory testing utilities, GPU stress-testing programs, BIOS/UEFI configuration interfaces, and network diagnostic tools. The specific lineup changes as new versions come out — our instructors update the lab images quarterly. Point is, we don't teach one tool and call it a day.

How It Works

From First Call to Certified Skills

01

Free Consultation

We talk through your team's current skill gaps and environment. Takes about 30 minutes. No pitch deck.

02

Custom Curriculum Map

We send a recommended course track with time estimates and prerequisites. Adjust it however you want.

03

Lab Access & Learning

Your team gets browser-based access to live lab environments. Work through exercises at your own pace. Mentors available during business hours.

04

Skills Assessment

Practical exam at the end. Not multiple choice — actual troubleshooting scenarios. Pass, and you get a certificate your employer can verify.

What Clients Say

From Their Teams, Not Ours

"Sent two junior admins through the disk diagnostics track in January. By March they were catching failing drives before the monitoring system even flagged them. Worth every dollar."

Derek Halloran

IT Director, Crestview Logistics Group

"Honestly? The thermal monitoring module alone paid for itself. We had a rack overheating for months — nobody could figure it out. One of our guys came back from Ridgeline and found the problem in an afternoon."

Priya Anand

Operations Manager, Birchwood Health Systems

"Scheduling was a bit tricky for our team in Alberta — time zone thing. But the content? Top shelf. The security hardening course found three privilege escalation paths we didn't know we had."

Marcus Chen

CTO, Verdant Energy Solutions

Common Questions

Answers Without the Runaround

Do we need to send people to Austin for the training?
No. Everything runs remotely through browser-based lab access. We've trained teams in 38 states and across Canada without anyone booking a flight. That said, if you want an on-site intensive for a larger group (10+), we do offer that — but it costs more and requires about 6 weeks of lead time.
How long does a typical course take to complete?
Depends on the track. The shortest (Network Troubleshooting) runs about 14 hours of lab time. The longest (Security Hardening) is closer to 25. Most people spread it over 3 to 6 weeks alongside their regular job.
Can we bring our own hardware data into the labs?
Yes, and we encourage it. Bring S.M.A.R.T. exports, HWiNFO sensor logs, benchmark results — whatever you have. Real data makes the exercises stick. Your instructor can use it as a case study during the session.
What if someone fails the skills assessment?
They retake it. Free. No extra fee, no awkward conversations. About 15% of first attempts don't pass — mostly because people rush through the monitoring exercises. Second attempt pass rate is over 95%.
What's the pricing structure?
Per-seat, per-course. Volume discounts for teams of 5 or more. We don't publish prices on the site because every engagement is a little different — some teams need mentoring hours, others just want lab access. Book a consultation and we'll give you a transparent quote within 48 hours.
Do you cover cloud infrastructure or only on-prem?
Primarily on-prem and hybrid. We don't teach cloud-native architecture — that's a different skill set and there are plenty of places that do it well. Our focus is physical and virtual infrastructure: servers, storage, networking, the stuff in your data closet or colo. If your environment is 100% cloud with no on-prem footprint, we're probably not the right fit.
